Ba delighted at hat-trick

Demba Ba has expressed delight at having scored a hat-trick at Stoke last night, with the striker taking the Toon to third in the Barclays Premier League table and helping the side keep their unbeaten run alive.

Newcastle have surprised even their own fans with a successful start to the season, taking six wins from 10 matches and showing no signs of slowing down.

And Ba, who nearly signed for Stoke in January but failed a medical to have the deal fall through, said that the club are riding a wave of confidence that needs to continue.

“We are really enjoying it and that gives us a lot of confidence, so we are just going to try to keep on doing the same things every week,” he said.

"I'm happy to tell you the truth. I am very happy. I am just going to enjoy it for the next few days. I am very happy for the team as well because we worked hard."

While Newcastle looked to have a crisis in their forward line this season, being unable to sign a replacement for the departed Andy Carroll in the summer, Ba and Leon Best have both performed above and beyond expectations to show that the club are still in contention for a place in Europe.

And Ba says he couldn’t be happier playing alongside Best, with the pair scoring 11 goals between them so far this campaign.

He explained: "He's a good strike partner. He is strong, he can hold the ball and I just come around him and play football. That's nice."
