Manchester United and Chelsea are being encouraged by Inter Milan to bid for Wesley Sneijder in January, it has been claimed.
According to Italian outlet Sportmediaset, the Serie A giants want to offload the Dutch playmaker in order to raise transfer funds, and have touted him out to potential suitors.
Of these, it has been reported, United and Chelsea are two of the most high-profile contenders and Sneijder could now seal a move to the Barclays Premier League in January.
Sneijder's protracted switch to Old Trafford was one of the longest running sagas of the transfer window as Sir Alex Ferguson scoured the market for a successor to Paul Scholes.
United, however, were unable to agree a fee with Inter for the 27-year-old, and he remained at the San Siro.
Chelsea, meanwhile, have been linked with Sneijder in the past and could now reportedly reignite their interest under Andre Villas-Boas.
The Chelsea boss was known to bee keen to add an inventive midfielder to his ranks before deadline day, and the Blues tried desperately to bring Luka Modric to Stamford Bridge.
