Liverpool are weighing up a move for Tottenham midfielder Tom Huddlestone according to the Daily Mirror.

The 24-year-old is a product of the Derby County youth academy, and made his debut for the Rams in 2003 at the tender age of 16 before being plucked from Pride Park two years later.

He signed for Spurs in a £2.5million deal after catching the eye of former White Hart Lane chief Damien Comolli - now director of football at Anfield.

Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish strengthened his midfield ranks considerably over the summer, but may be tempted by the availability of Huddlestone, after Comolli revealed he feels he could tempt him away from north London.

Huddlestone hasn't featured for Tottenham since August after undergoing surgery on his right ankle, but is set to return to action in December.

However, once fit, he will face serious competition for a place in Spurs boss Harry Redknapp's starting line-up as he looks to dislodge Luka Modric, Scott Parker, and Sandro - who are all currently ahead of him in the pecking order.

The England international is likely to face an equally difficult challenge at Liverpool, but with question marks again raised over the fitness of Reds captain Steven Gerrard, Huddlestone could be seen as a long-term replacement for Merseyside's star midfield maestro.
