Theo Walcott is set to open contract talks with Arsenal, according to The Sun, with the winger considering prolonging his contract which currently runs out in under two years.
Walcott has starred for the Gunners since the England international moved to the club in 2006. But with his contract running out soon, Arsene Wenger is keen to talk to the 22-year-old to avoid another Samir Nasri situation.
Robin van Persie and Andrey Arshavin’s contracts at Arsenal also run out in 2013, and if the trio don’t receive new deals by next summer, the Gunners may be faced with the choice of having to sell, or letting them go for free.
Arsenal are hoping to shore up the trio as soon as possible, and if Walcott agrees to a new deal, van Persie and Arshavin might follow suit.
Fans have been particularly frustrated by the transfer gossip surrounding players of late, and Wenger is desperate to win a trophy this season to show his players that staying at Arsenal is the right decision.
