Gary Cahill is no longer a target for Arsenal, according to the Daily Mail, after Wenger said today that he doesn’t want a centre-back in the next transfer window.
Cahill has been a long standing target for Arsene Wenger, but with the re-emergence of Thomas Vermaelen, the manager now says that he doesn’t need to add any more to his backline as they continue to gel and play off each other's strengths in the Barclays Premier League and Champions League.
Arsenal had a seemingly disappointing summer transfer period, signing just three players before deadline day - two from lower-league sides and one from Ligue 1. And in the last 24 hours, while the side tried to make up for losing Samir Nasri and Cesc Fabregas, Arsenal underwent their worst start to a season in over 50 years.
But after picking up their form and defeating Chelsea 5-3 at the weekend, Arsenal are now back on track and pushing for a top four spot, and Cahill, who Wenger considered paying a £17 million exit clause for last summer, has been ruled out as a target by the club.
