Chelsea target Neymar has taken the first steps towards becoming a Real Madrid player, according to South American paper Latercera, with Santos accepting a payment installment for the Braizl international to move to Spain next year.
Neymar has been a star for both club and country, and at just 19-years-old, his potential for talent has drawn the attention of numerous European clubs.
Chelsea were thought to be the English front runners to secure Neymar’s signature, though Manchester City and Manchester United had also shown interest, but Real Madrid and Barcelona have been fighting hard to win the race to sign the youngster.
But Real Madrid now look set to steal the march on Chelsea, who have long admired Neymar, particularly since he scored in a friendly against Scotland earlier this year.
According to the paper, the Spanish giants have handed over £20 million in a first installment of Neymar’s total payment, and will fend off competition such as Chelsea and Barcelona completely when the starlet signs the dotted line.
