Aston Villa are reportedly pursuing Hamburg defender Dennis Diekmeier.
The 22-year-old has established himself in the Rothosen first-team this season, and has made seven appearances in the Bundesliga so far this term.
According to talkSPORT, £6 million-rated Diekmeier's recent performances have caught the attention of Villa boss Alex McLeish, and a January bid could be in the offing.
However, Villa will face competition from Roma in the race for the German full-back, although neither club is thought to have made a formal approach just yet.
Should Diekmeier move to Villa Park, he will provide competition for incumbent right-back Alan Hutton, who only signed for the club in the summer.
The Scotland international joined Villa from Tottenham for £3 million, having fallen down the pecking order at White Hart Lane.
Hutton has since featured nine times for Villa and looks set to feature prominently in McLeish's plans for the remainder of the campaign.
