Inter Milan will reportedly formalise their interest in Arsenal captain Robin van Persie when the transfer window opens in January.

According to talkSPORT, Inter are set to make the first bid for the Holland international as Claudio Ranieri aims to reinforce his goalscoring department.

Arsenal are expected to have to field plenty of interest for van Persie over the next few months, unless the Gunners can reach a contract resolution with the striker.

The 28-year-old has 18 months remaining on his current Arsenal deal and Arsene Wenger is desperate to keep him at the Emirates Stadium.

Van Persie has, so far, given encouraging indications that his will extend his stay with the club, but his sensational form is likely to see temptation to leave increase.

The former Feyenoord forward is the most in-form striker in Europe right now, having scored 11 league goals for Arsenal this season and 40 in his last 44 for club and country.

Along with Inter, Real Madrid are also said to be keen on the Arsenal star, as are Barclays Premier League leaders Manchester City.
