Jack Rodwell has fulfilled a childhood dream in getting his first call-up for England, with the 20-year-old getting ready to feature for the Three Lions when they take on Spain in a friendly on Saturday.
Rodwell admitted that he thought it was a prank call when he was told that he would get a mention for the senior international side, after making numerous appearances for the Under 21s in recent years.
And Rodwell said that he feels fantastic to be impressing Fabio Capello enough to be chosen for the squad after putting in some top performances for the Toffees this term.
"I was over the moon when I was told. Me and my family just all celebrated together,” he said.
"It is a brilliant experience. I have wanted it all my life and it is very much a dream come true. Spain at Wembley is a brilliant game. You could not have scripted it any better.
"Hopefully I will get on the pitch but if not then it will just be a great experience to be there.”
Phil Jagielka also had plenty of praise for Rodwell, with the Everton defender revealing that the entire squad has been pleased to see the youngster step up and show his worth.
"We have said with Mikel leaving and us being short of numbers in the middle it was time for Jack to step up and he has been fantastic since he has done so," he explained.
"He was unfortunate with the red card against Liverpool but other than that he has been up there with our players of the season so far."
