AC Milan are reportedly making the early running for Manchester United and Arsenal target Riccardo Montolivo.

According to Football Italia, the Rossoneri have made a 'fresh bid' for Montolivo in the hope of signing him from Fiorentina in January.

The 26-year-old midfielder is seemingly set to leave the Stadio Artemio Franchi after rejecting the offer of a new contract, with his current deal set to expire in the summer.

Fiorentina, then, are expected to cash-in on the Italy international during the transfer window, and United and Arsenal have been linked with a bid for his services.

Both Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger are reported to have sent scouts on numerous occasions to run the rule over Montolivo while on both club and international duty.

Whether United or Arsenal decide to formalise their interest in the New Year remains to be seen, but both are thought to be scouring the market for midfield reinforcements.

Arsenal have been linked with moves for Eden Hazard and Yann M'Vila, while United are said to be keen to bring Javi Garcia to Old Trafford.
