Hernandez loving 'unbelievable' United life

Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez is still coming to terms with his rise to prominence at Old Trafford.

The Mexican hitman joined the Red Devils last summer, with Sir Alex Ferguson snapping up the 26-year-old from Chivas Guadalajara prior to an impressive World Cup campaign in South Africa.

A stunning first season, scoring 20 goals in all competitions, has quickly made the player a firm favourite with the club's supporters, and 'Chicharito' is still settling into life as one of the club's superstars.

"It’s unbelievable. In some ways I’m still getting used to wearing this shirt and being around these incredible players, seeing my name on a Manchester United teamsheet... it’s amazing," he told the club's official website.

"Some days I wake up and I just can’t believe it. I’m living in this great country, playing for the best club in the world in the best league in the world. I’m so thankful for that."

Competition for places, particularly up-front, continues to be fierce at United, with Wayne Rooney, Dimitar Berbatov, Michael Owen, Danny Welbeck, Federico Macheda and Mame Biram Diouf all eager for senior opportunities under the Scottish boss.

And Hernandez has quickly come to realise that disappointments can often come the way of a player at Manchester United on match day, with so many quality players making continuous selection an almost impossible chance at the club.

"I’ve come to learn that there will always be competition, at any club. You look around on the training pitch and there are almost 30 players, but only 11 can start a game," he added.

"So it’s tough. You’ll always have disappointments. It helps you improve, though. On the training ground everybody wants to do their best, they want to prove what they can do and earn a spot in the Manchester United team."
