Real Madrid reserve Lassana Diarra believes a move to Roma would be ‘perfect’, dashing the hopes of Liverpool and Manchester United.
A host of English clubs have shown interest in the French international, but it now looks like he would prefer a move to the Stadio Olimpico over Old Trafford or Anfield.
Sir Alex Ferguson has had problems settling his midfield this season, and Diarra’s wealth of experience was seen as a possible route to remedy their misfiring in the middle at the start of the season.
Roma are facing the prospect of losing their vice-captain Daniele De Rossi at the end of the season, and Diarra is viewed as a like for like replacement by Giallorossi boss Luis Enrique.
Diarra was quoted in goal.com saying: "There's too much competition here [at Real Madrid]. I do not want to stay on the bench any longer.
"I am sure that my contribution could be important. A project like Roma's would be perfect and then I want go to the Euros [with France].”
26-year-old has had an unsettled career so far and, should he make the move in January, Roma would be his seventh club in eight years.
