Spurs, Arsenal & Chelsea in £25m Serbian starlet fight

Published Add your comment

Palermo have told Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal that Serbian starlet Josip Ilicic will cost them a cool £25million according to the London Metro.

The 23-year-old attacking midfielder has attracted widespread attention from the Barclays Premier League, causing the Serie A club's president Maurizio Zamparini to thwart the reported interest with an audacious valuation.

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp is a known admirer of Ilicic's, and is believed to be preparing a bid to bring him to White Hart Lane when the transfer window reopens in January.

Meanwhile, under-fire Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas could challenge Tottenham for the playmaker's signature, as the Blues turn their attention to alternative midfield prospects after the breakdown of any potential deal for Spurs star Luka Modric.

Ilicic now heads a list of a number of players who could be on their way to Stamford Bridge, as the Portuguese tactician continues his overhaul of the Chelsea playing squad.

They could face further competition from Arsenal, as Arsene Wenger identifies potential January targets to strengthen his ranks at the Emirates Stadium.

After a dreadful start to the 2011-12 campaign, a resurgent Gunners have now won ten of their last twelve fixtures, and Wenger will be hoping to continue the club's revival with the addition of further signings in the New Year.

However, Palermo chief Zamparini has a reputation as a tough customer to deal with, having recently forced Paris Saint Germain to pay €40 million for Argentine playmaker Javier Pastore, so Arsenal, Chelsea, and Tottenham will have a considerable fight on their hands if they are to land Ilicic.
