Tottenham are reportedly considering a January swoop for Sporting CP defender Joao Pereira.

According to talkSPORT, the north London club have identified the £11 million-rated Portugal international as a potential transfer window acquisition.

However, Spurs are likely to have to battle with AC Milan for Pereira, who is also adept at operating in midfield.

The 27-year-old joined Sporting in late 2009 and has since made 46 appearances for the Portuguese outfit.

His versatility appears to have caught the attention of Spurs boss Harry Redknapp, who is thought to be after reinforcements both at full-back and in midfield.

Redknapp is also said to be keen to add another striker to his ranks when the opportunity presents itself in January, amid worries Emmanuel Adebayor could prove too expensive as a permanent purchase.

The Manchester City forward has netted five times since his loan move to White Hart Lane, but his massive wages will pose a problem for Spurs.
