Barcelona starlet Martin Montoya is on the brink of shunning a move to Chelsea by signing a new contract at Camp Nou reports skysports.com.
The 20-year-old defender has made his first-team debut for Pep Guardiola's side, but there have been doubts over whether or not he will be able to make an impact with the La Liga giants.
Blues boss Andre Villas-Boas has been keeping tabs on a number of promising youngsters, having recently set up a new scouting network in Spain.
Montoya had been targeted by Chelsea as a player who could succeed at Stamford Bridge, having courted attention in a similar fashion to Oriol Romeu - who left Barcelona in favour of west London in August.
However, after being told that he has a big future at the club, the young Spaniard is now considering the offer currently on the table and is poised to pen a new two-and-a-half-year deal.
A temporary loan move is still a possibility for Montoya as he continues his development, but Chelsea are believed to be interested only in a permanent transfer.
