Benfica midfielder Pablo Aimar is subject to interest from a trio of Barclays Premier League clubs, according to Metro.

The former Valencia midfielder, who won the La Liga title and Uefa Cup, as well as finished as a runner up in the Champions League final while in La Liga, has begun to recapture his best form at Benfica.

He scored the Portuguese side's second against Manchester United last week, and his performances have sparked interest from across Europe including from Tottenham Hotspur and Everton.

While Tottenham are not in dire need of central midfield resources, with Luka Modric having been retained, Everton wafer thin squad would benefit from the signing of Aimar.

Owner Bill Kenwright has suggested the club are looking for investors, who would provide funds for Everton boss David Moyes to use in the transfer market.

In the meantime, Tottenham are more likely to have the funds to sign Aimar, while Blackburn Rovers are also preparing a bid as they look to stave off relegation.
