Arsenal shot-stopper Wojciech Szczesny was full of praise for Fulham’s resistance against the Gunners on Saturday night that helped them secure a 1-1 draw at the Emirates Stadium, however the Polish international remains steadfast in his belief that Arsenal can still challenge for the title.

The Gunners have now gone six games unbeaten in the Barclays Premier League but looked weary as they struggled to a stalemate against Martin Jol’s side, a result that leaves them in seventh place, 12 points behind league-leaders Manchester City.

Szczesny admitted he was impressed with Fulham’s resistance on Saturday night, even if it was a case of two points dropped rather than one gained for the Gunners.

“Of course, we’re always disappointed not to get three points,” he told reporters. “I thought we played well, our attitude was fantastic.

“Credit to Fulham, they defended fantastically towards the end and Schwarzer made a few fantastic saves. I think we needed a few more minutes to win the game.

“It didn't happen though and we can only praise the team spirit. We finished on a high, which hopefully we can take into the next game.

“We’ve still got the momentum so hopefully we can take that onto the Man City and Wigan games. We are still confident.”

After the game Wenger admitted he was fearful of running his players into the ground and flagged up the fitness of the in-form Robin Van Persie, Theo Walcott and Aaron Ramsey, with the Frenchman saying in-match data suggested injuries for the trio were imminent unless they were rested soon.

Szczesny believes that while Arsenal were frustrated as they fell further behind the likes of Chelsea and Tottenham in the race for a top four spot, they still had reason to smile after the game.

“Let's take the positives because we responded well,” he added. "I told the lads that after the game.

“We were frustrated in the dressing room because we want to win every game.

“But when we calm down a bit we will realise we played really well and looked like the only team that would win.

“You can see from today that we are up for a fight. It's not as beautiful but we got there.

“We lacked a bit of luck in the box, they made some fantastic blocks and clearances. It's not always beautiful but it's effective. Hopefully that will take us further up the table."
