Joe Hart has leapt to the defence of Manchester City teammate Joleon Lescott, following the 29-year-old defender's own goal at Anfield on Sunday.
The England international stuck out a leg to block a Charlie Adam shot just minutes after Roberto Mancini's side had taken the lead through a Vincent Kompany header.
Lescott could only watch on helplessly as he deflected the ball past his own goalkeeper to give Liverpool the equaliser in a match which finished all square at 1-1.
"It happens, Joleon's one of the most honest defenders we've got," said Hart. "He apologised and he'll save us more times than he'll do that.
"We dug in, we went down to 10 and we got out of it with a result."
Despite their disappointment, the Citizens left Merseyside with their unbeaten Barclays Premier League record for 2011-12 still intact.
A win at Anfield would have seen them extend their lead at the top of the table to seven points after Manchester United drew at home to Newcastle the previous day, but Hart insists the players were still happy with the result.
"We want to win every game but sometimes it's not possible," he concluded. "It's not an easy league and we're very happy."
