Rennes have confirmed they received a 'big offer' from England for Arsenal and Manchester United target Yann M'Vila during the closing days of the summer transfer window.

The 21-year-old French midfielder is seemingly destined to leave the Route de Lorient after a number of eye-catching displays for club and country alerted some of Europe's top clubs.

Arsenal have been consistently linked with M'Vila, and Arsene Wenger has even been outed as a fan of the combative midfield maestro.

Previous reports have also suggested Sir Alex Ferguson has explored the possibility of bringing M'Vila to Old Trafford.

Whether or not Arsenal or United formalised their interest in M'Vila as the transfer dealine approached remains unclear, but a Barclays Premier League club did make an offer for his services.

"He's a player of very high technical value and therefore his economic value is also high," Rennes chief Jean-François Creachcadec told TMW.

"In the summer we received a big offer from England, but it arrived too late."

Creachcadec also gave Arsenal and United hope that a possible agreement for M'Vila could be reached at the end of the season.

"Next summer we will be ready to consider reasonable proposals," he added.

"Italy? No one can afford him, for figures and value."
