Manchester United are exploring the possibility of signing Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira, reports in Germany have claimed.

The German international has also been linked with a move to Chelsea, although it is unclear whether Jose Mourinho would be prepared to sell.

According to Kicker, Sir Alex Ferguson has identified Khedira as a possible acquisition as he looks to reinforce his midfield ranks at Old Trafford.

The 24-year-old moved to the Santiago Bernabeu from Stuttgart in the summer of 2006 and made 35 appearances for Los Blancos during his first season.

Khedira has made a further 15 appearances for Real this campaign, and appears to have caught the attention of the Barclays Premier League champions.

Ferguson's ambition to add another combative player to his midfield has also reportedly led him to Rennes enforcer Yann M'Vila.

The United boss is reported to want extra competition for places with the likes of Anderson and Darren Fletcher, while Arsenal are also said to be keen on M'Vila.
