Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew will look to replace the injured Steven Taylor in the January transfer window, according to The Chronicle.
Taylor was ruled out for the season after picking up a knee injury against Chelsea at the weekend and already the club are looking to bring in reinforcements.
The 25-year-old has played a big part in Newcastle's impressive start to the season but the club's wafer thin squad means Pardew will be forced to buy a replacement.
Liam Ridgewell has been heavily linked with a move to Newcastle, but a move has yet to materialise, while the likes of James Perch and Mike Williamson are waiting in the wings if required.
Perch replaced fellow injured defender Fabricio Coloccini against Chelsea, while Williamson has featured just once in the league since May.
Newcastle still have plenty of the £35 million recouped from the sale of Andy Carroll and could launch a sizeable bid in the January window.
