Chelsea made an a check on the availability of Liverpool target David Villa during the summer, it has been claimed.

The Spanish striker has constantly been linked with a move away from the Nou Camp in recent months, although the 30-year-old maintains his desire to stay with Barcelona.

Reports in Spain allege Liverpool have been monitoring Villa, and that Kenny Dalglish is keen to bring the form Valencia hitman to Anfield in January.

Whether or not the interest of Liverpool is genuine is unclear but, according to the Daily Mail, Chelsea made 'tentative enquires' about Villa during the last transfer window.

Andre Villas-Boas could now move in January for Villa, as he plans an overhaul of his squad at Stamford Bridge in the New Year.

It is reported that the Chelsea boss is prepared to offload as many as six players, while recruit one or two high-profile targets.

Along with Villa, Lille star Eden Hazard - who has also been linked with Liverpool - is said to be on the radar of the Blues.
