Arsenal starlet Ignasi Miquel is hoping to make more senior appearances after coming off the bench against Olympiacos last night.
The Spanish defender has made a handful of appearances in England, predominantly in the League Cup and FA Cup, but got his first taste of European action in Greece last night.
It was a Champions League experience that the academy graduate is hoping will stand him in good stead for years to come, with Miquel confident he's taken 'the next step' on his road to success at the Emirates.
“It was amazing, it was a great atmosphere. I never expected it to be like this and making my debut in the Champions League is great for me," Miquel told Arsenal Player online.
“Unfortunately we lost but it was my next step for me. I just need to get here more often now. You could see that they went out like they had to win. They won but unfortunately they didn't go through. They had a great game, pressed up a lot and eventually got the goals."
Reflecting further on the game, Miquel thought the Gunners had the chances to at least draw the game, but found themselves on the back-foot in the later stages before eventually falling to a 3-1 defeat.
The result didn't affect Arsene Wenger's side's qualification through to the knockout stage though, with top spot in Group F already assured before the match.
“I think we had quite a lot of chances in the second had to draw the game but that's football," added Miquel.
“They backed up once in the game and that was when we scored, but they couldn't do it again in case they lost. They pressed up so we couldn't play our football that much and got the result.“
