Liverpool’s hopes of signing Wilfired Zaha have been dealt a major blow.
The Crystal Palace youngster has been impressing with his recent performances, sparking speculation of a January bid out of Anfield.
Kenny Dalglish was thought to be a great admirer of the Ivory Coast-born forward, but it now look as though Liverpool are set to miss out.
Palace manager Dougie Freedman has claimed that Zaha is set to sign a new contract at Selhurst Park.
“I'm really pleased that Wilfried Zaha will put pen to paper and sign a new five-year contract in the next 24 hours,” said Freedman.
“It shows the commitment the young players have to this club.
“He has made a great progression and I'm really looking forward to working with him long term.”
Stoke City were reported to have made a bid for the England Under-19 international, but Liverpool were credited as his most likely destination.
The Merseysiders were thought to be preparing a transfer window bid, but their chances of signing him now appear to be over.
The 19-year-old can operate in a wide role as well as a central striker and his performance in Palace’s shock Carling Cup win at Old Trafford was thought to have convinced Dalglish to make a move.
