Spurs chasing ‘new Makelele’

Spurs are reportedly tracking the ‘new Claude Makelele’ Charles Kabore of Ligue 1 side Marseille, according to the People.

Harry Redknapp feels the need to bolster his squad in January to help maintain Spurs’ title challenge.

The White Hart Lane side are currently third in the Barclays Premier League but they suffered their first loss in 11 games at Stoke on Sunday.

Redknapp is confident his first choice 11 can match any team in the league but is worried about a lack of quality back-up should injury strike.

Kabore is a Burkina Faso international but hold s a French passport, so there would be no work permit issues attached to his signing.

Spurs will need to fight off Italian interest if they want to sign the Marseille man, as both Lazio and Fiorentina have been credited with an interest.

The 23-year-old has been dubbed the ‘new Makelele’ due to his combative style, and his performances are bringing him publicity from around Europe.

Kabore was part of the Marseille side that turned around a two-goal deficit away to Borussia Dortmund to secure qualification for the Champions League knockout stages.

That game featured another Spurs target, Loic Remy, but the French side’s success has put paid to any hope of bringing him to north London.
