Sao Paulo midfielder Lucas says he is scared to move to Europe because he's worried he'll fail to adapt to style of play.
Lucas has been attracting attention from a number of Europe's finest, including Barcelona and AC Milan.
But its the interest from Liverpool and Manchester United that has been most persistent.
"I'm only 19, I'm still young and I'm scared of not being able to adapt to life abroad. I hope that this'll change some day," said Lucas.
He added: "I'm working up a great relationship with the Sao Paulo fans. The worst aspect of being a footballer is not being able to see my childhood friends, who I miss very much."
The news will come as a worry for both Liverpool and United, who were keen to bring the attacking midfielder to the Premier League.
While Liverpool invested in signing central midfielders Charle Adam and Jordan Henderson i the summer, United are short of quality in the position.
