Leeds striker Luciano Becchio has emerged as a target for Npower Championship promotion rivals Middlesbrough.

According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Tony Mowbray is keen on the Argentine forward and is considering a January swoop for his services.

However, it is reported that Boro's transfer kitty for the transfer window is unlikely to allow them to table an offer substantial enough to make Leeds consider selling Becchio.

The 27-year-old has struggled with injury this season and has netted only twice for Leeds so far this term.

Becchio has featured 12 times as a substitute during his 17 appearances for Leeds, but Simon Grayson still regards him as an important part of his future plans.

Since his move to Elland Road in the summer of 2008, Becchio has scored 58 goals for the Whites.
