Marseille chairman Vincent Labrune has held talks with Arsenal target Mathieu Valbuena to discuss the France international's future at the Stade Velodrome.
The midfielder is reported to have become unsettled under Didier Deschamps, having found himself benched for recent fixtures.
Talk of a proposed move to Arsenal has been mooted, and Arsene Wenger has previously been outed as a fan of the 27-year-old.
However, says Labrune, Valbuena gave no indication that he is interested in forcing a move away from Marseille in January.
"The talks went smoothly," he told L'Equipe.
"We talked about him and his career at Marseille so far. He is a very important player.
"A winter departure? We didn't even discuss it.
"He never stated that he wants to leave."
Arsenal, meanwhile, have also been linked with Mario Gotze and Eden Hazard as Wenger scours the market for long-term successors to Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri.
The Gunners boss has, however, stated that he will not reinforce his midfield ranks in the winter transfer window.
