Suitors warned off reported Liverpool striker target

Wolves manager has given a hands off warning over Steven Fletcher, a rumoured Liverpool target.

The Anfield club have been mentioned as possible suitors for Wolves’ Scotland striker.

This comes in light of Liverpool’s recent scoring woes and Kenny Dalglish reportedly chasing a new striker to relieve them.

Wolves manager Mick McCarthy was speaking to the Express & Star when he dismissed the idea of a move from Liverpool or any club.

“He’s a Premier League player scoring goals so he’s going to get headlines. Players always do when they’re scoring goals,” he said

“So, categorically, no. All Fletcher can do is play and score, for his career here, and his Scotland career.

“He’s still only a young man, so all he can do is keep playing well and scoring.

“It’s a great feeling as a footballer to be playing well. He’s a very good player – he’s excellent,” added McCarthy.

“It’s his all-round game, but as with all strikers, it’s his goals that top his performances off.”

Liverpool have been linked with many strikers along with Fletcher – including Brazilian Leandro Damiao, David Villa and Chilean Eduardo Vargas.
