PSV Eindhoven defender Erik Pieters will not be sold during the January transfer window, despite growing interest from Newcastle United.
Magpies boss Alan Pardew is a known admirer of Pieters, and is determined to bring him to St James' Park in the New Year, but has also been credited with an interest in AC Milan left-back Taye Taiwo.
However, the Eredivisie ace remains Newcastle's primary defensive target despite the fact Pieters has been ruled out until February with a broken metatarsal.
PSV sporting director Marcel Brands is adamant that the Dutchman will not be leaving Holland in January, and warned Newcastle they would be wasting their time by making a fresh approach to sign Pieters.
"We won't sell in the winter, so I don't expect anything to happen," he told Goal.com. "Pieters will be fit again in February and we look forward to having him back playing for us.
"We're not looking to sell any players at all because we're in the race for the title."
