Arsenal midfielder Denilson has said he wants to remain with Sao Paulo rather than return to north London at the end of the season reports talkSPORT.

The 23-year-old Brazilian star is currently enjoying a season-long loan spell back in his homeland, but endured a difficult introduction after he was sent off twice in his opening three games for his new club.

After five years at the Emirates Stadium, Gunners boss Arsene Wenger allowed Denilson to leave in favour of a move back to South America, and it is unclear at this stage whether or not the player remains in Arsenal's long-term plans.

Either way, Denilson has made clear his intentions to impress in the final six months of his loan spell, in a bid to win a permanent deal at Sao Paulo.

"Personally, I'm very sad that the season will finish this way," he said in an interview with Radio Globo. "Of course there's still a game remaining and there is hope for the Libertadores.

"I still have six more months, I hope to cool off a little, enjoy the holidays with my family, to return more professional and get things right next year."
