Manchester United are targeting a move for Cheik Tiote during the upcoming transfer window, according to Jarrow and Hebburn Gazette.

The Ivory Coast international made his comeback from a knee-injury against Swansea City at the weekend, and his form prior to his injury has been the cornerstone of the club's impressive start to the season.

But United's injury crisis in midfield, which sees Anderson, Darren Fletcher and Darron Gibson all on the sidelines, may force them into increasing their options.

United are likely to face competition from Chelsea and Liverpool according to recent reports.

Chelsea are till looking to breath new life into their squad while Liverpool, without Lucas Leiva until the end of the season, after searching for a replacement for the Brazilian.

Liverpool have spent over £100 million in the last 12 month on new players, while Chelsea last winter splashed out on Fernando Torres, an invested they are yet to see return on.

United have been linked with a host of midfielders of late, but the ball winning attributes of Tiote make him a viable target.
