Newcastle are considering a January move for reported Liverpool target Danijel Pranjic, it has been claimed.

The Croatia international has made only four appearances for Bayern Munich this season and has been attempting to engineer a move away from the Allianz Arena.

According to The Sun, Newcastle and Liverpool are two of the clubs to have been linked with the 30-year-old, who could be available on loan next month.

Midfield reinforcements are said to be on the agenda for both Alan Pardew and Kenny Dalglish during the transfer window, and the versatile Pranjic could prove to be a worthy acquisition for either manager.

Dalglish is looking for numbers in the middle of the park following the news that Lucas Leiva will be out for the remainder of the season, while there are still doubts over the long-term fitness of Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard.

Liverpool have yet to put an official date on the return of Gerrard, who has featured only six times for the Anfield club since March of this year.

However, according to reports on Tuesday, the Reds legend may be available for selection for the Boxing Day encounter with relegation-threatened Blackburn.
