Eduardo Vargas' move to Napoli could be hijacked by Inter Milan, according to La Tercera.
The Chilean forward was expected to join Napoli after the player himself confirmed a deal was on the verge of being completed.
However, reports now suggest a late bid from Inter could break up the deal for a player formerly linked with Chelsea.
With Chelsea having already lost the services of Nicolas Anelka and with Salomon Kalou and Didier Drogba set to go to the African Nations Cup next month, the club are short in the forward department.
Fernando Torres' inconsistent form and Romelu Lukaku's limited appearances leaves the club weak up front, leading to reports of a move to Vargas.
Despite looking like they've missed their chance to sign the 22-year-old, the Stamford Bridge club could still plash out on a forward this winter Edinson Cavani and Gonzalo Higuain both linked with unlikely moves to west London.
