Liverpool target Cristian Chivu has not held talks with Inter Milan over the possibility of signing a new contract reveals agent Victor Becali.

The 31-year-old defender has been heavily linked with the San Siro exit door, as negotiations continue to stall.

Reds boss Kenny Dalglish has been credited with an interest in Chivu, as the Scot looks to bolster his defensive ranks at Anfield.

The Romanian international has also attracted interest from Manchester City and former club Ajax in recent months, but ultimately Chivu wants to remain in Italy.

But with his contract set to expire in June, Becali admits his client may be forced to consider alternative options in the New Year.

"For now we're stuck, [as] no-one has called from Inter," he confirmed. "The situation has not changed in recent months.

"We'll wait over Christmas, then if nothing happens in the first four-to-five days of January, we'll begin to look around."

Liverpool made the central defensive addition of Sebastien Coates in the summer, but are preparing for a future without the likes of Jamie Carragher, who is entering the twilight of his Reds career.
