Arsenal have played down their interest in Lyon star Yoann Gourcuff and have now dismissed reports of a bid to sign the playmaker on loan reports skysports.com.
The 25-year-old French international is still recovering full form after undergoing ankle surgery in the summer, an injury which ruled the exciting midfielder out of action for five months.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is a known admirer of Gourcuff's ability, but the frugal Frenchman insists he has enough options in midfield at the Emirates Stadium.
"No. In midfield I have Wilshere and Diaby, who will be back, and that would mean a lot of players," he told French newspaper L'Equipe.
However, Wenger did indicate that Arsenal would continue to monitor Gourcuff for the remainder of the season, and as he continues to rediscover his best form, the player could earn himself a potential move to north London in the summer.
"I see his evolution in a positive way," he added. "He is back from a long injury that put him away from the pitch for five months.
"He needs time to come back. That is typical. From January to May, he has time to get back to his best."
