Chelsea target puts pen to paper

Chelsea target Christian Maggio has signed a contract extension with Napoli, club president Aurelio De Laurentiis has confirmed.

The 29-year-old full-back has made 20 appearances for the Italian side this season, and has become an integral part of Walter Mazzarri's squad.

De Laurentiis said: “We have extended the contract of Christian Maggio until the end of 2015."

Maggio had reportedly been attracting the interest of Chelsea as Andre Villas-Boas scours the market for defensive reinforcements.

The Chelsea boss is said to be keen for cover at full-back, and has also targeted Porto's Alvaro Pereira.

However, it would appear Maggio will not be moving to Stamford Bridge any time soon, and the Italy international is expected to face Chelsea in the Champions League in February.
