Thierry Henry was unable to make his Arsenal return in a reserve team run out against Sunderland on Wednesday.

According to the Daily Express, the French striker had been pencilled in to face the Black Cats, but did not feature as Gunners still await for the loan deal to be ratified.

Arsenal, however, remain hopeful Henry will be registered in time to make his Gunners return for Monday night's FA Cup encounter with Leeds at the Emirates Stadium.

Meanwhile, Arsenal's reserves were defeated 2-0 by Sunderland at London Colney in the absence of Henry.

Without the 34-year-old available for selection, Neil Banfield instead opted to start with summer acquisition Ju Young Park upfront, while exciting youngster Ryo Miyaichi also made an appearance.

However, goals in the first-half from Ryan Noble and Billy Knott were enough to give the visitors the victory on a blustery afternoon.
