Aston Villa have not received any form of contact from Liverpool regarding the proposed transfer of Darren Bent, Alex McLeish has confirmed.
Speculation has been rife that the Reds had made an approach for the England striker, as Kenny Dalglish reportedly scours the market for goalscoring reinforcements.
The Liverpool boss is said to be keen to bolster his Anfield attack with Luis Suarez serving an eight-game suspension for racially abusing Manchester United defender Patrice Evra.
However, this search has not led Liverpool to Bent, and Villa manager McLeish says the club would not take kindly to any offers for their premier hitman.
"We've not heard a thing from Liverpool," stated McLeish. "I'm aware of the speculation.
"But there has been no contact with this club and I think you've had three parties telling you that.
"But, even if there was contact, we would not entertain that (selling Bent).
"We wouldn't want to entertain selling our top scorer of last season. He is a prolific marksman."
Meanwhile, McLeish hopes to complete the loan capture of former Tottenham forward Robbie Keane, who is available due to the MLS off-season.
