Sir Alex Ferguson insists the debate about his Manchester United squad has only grown due to one bad week.

Ferguson has once again been forced to defend his transfer policy amid anguish over defeats to Blackburn and Newcastle that leave the Red Devils three points adrift of Manchester City in the Barclays Premier League title race.

He said: "Questions have been asked about us at the moment but it is only because we have had two bad results. Only a couple of weeks ago everyone was talking about how important our experience was going to be in the run-in. And I think it will be."
