United legend tipped for sensational return
Manchester United legend Paul Scholes will answer SOS call from Sir Alex Ferguson
Paul Scholes will make a sensational Manchester United comeback, should Sir Alrx Ferguson ask him to come out of retirement, it has been claimed.
The 37-year-old lowered the curtain on his illustrious career in May, but former teammates have since urged him to reconsider.
He has, however, rejected the opportunity to return to the fold at Old Trafford, and has been content with life as a coach.
But, according to The Sun, Scholes is now ready to answer the call of Ferguson and ease United's problems in midfield.
Should it come to fruition, it would be a quite remarkable turn of events and suggest Ferguson should have moved to sign a successor to Scholes during the summer.
United have lacked creativity in midfield in recent weeks, and consecutive league defeats has seen Ferguson's tactics in the transfer market called into question.
The United boss did attempt to sign Wesley Sneijder in August, and the failure to capature the Inter Milan playmaker - or a player of similar quality - has been widely criticised.
The return of Scholes, though, would provide United with a short-term fix for United before Ferguson dips into the transfer market this summer.
