Liverpool legend Alan Hansen is confident the Reds can capitalise on a number of high-profile Manchester City absentees in tonight's League Cup semi-final first leg clash.
The Citizens will be without club captain Vincent Kompany after his four-match ban, for a red card against Manchester United in the FA Cup on Sunday, was upheld, whilst Ivorian duo Yaya and Kolo Toure are both out of action for their club at the African Cup of Nations.
It leaves the Reds with an opportunity to right the wrong of a 3-0 defeat at the Etihad Stadium a fortnight ago, and Hansen believes his former side can capitalise on their 'weakened' opponents.
"One of their stars, Yaya Toure, is away on African Cup of Nations duty and he will be a big, big loss for them," Hansen told LFC magazine.
"All of a sudden I'm thinking we've got a chance here. With their two most consistent players [Kompany and Yaya Toure], who were also their best players against us in the Premier League game, potentially missing it gives us a better opportunity for progressing.
"As Kenny said himself, all three of City's goals were soft. They all came from mistakes by Liverpool players and obviously such errors need to be cut out."
Hansen enjoyed plenty of Cup success as a player at Anfield, winning two FA Cup and three League Cup trophies during 14 professional years with the Reds - many of which spent alongside Kenny Dalglish.
And, with a place at Wembley on the line, the Scot is confident compatriot 'King Kenny' will be able to draw on the positives from their last outing against City and push for victory in the tie.
"Anything can happen over a two-legged semi-final and the aim for Liverpool is to get a result at City that gives us a great chance of getting to Wembley when we bring them back to Anfield," added the BBC pundit.
"Kenny will concentrate on the positives from last week's game. There was never three goals difference between the two teams - Liverpool played well and the score line flattered City.
"That said, we lost and Kenny won't ignore that."
