With Chelsea's old guard seemingly on the way out of Stamford Bridge, the rumour mill has been quick to dream up players who could fill the void if the likes of Florent Malouda and Salomon Kalou complete their expected exits.

The latest man to have such an honour bestowed on him is Angel Di Maria, Real Madrid's Argentine winger.

While confirmed admirers are few and far between, Madrid have confirmed themselves that they have they have received a bid for the 23-year-old.

"Di Maria can count on the love and appreciation of the club and we do not want to sell him," sporting director Miguel Pardeza said.

"We are proud that offers are coming in, because that means that signing the player was a success and that he is doing well at Madrid."

Reports suggest Jose Mourinho would only be willing to part with Di Maria for around £38 million, while Di Maria will be keeping an eye on reports suggesting Brazilian Neymar is on the verge of signing for the club.

GMF contemplates whether it would be worth Chelsea taking the plunge.

Pros

Di Maria is as genuine a wide player as any in Europe. He possesses pace to burn and is likely to regularly chip in with assists. His 11 in La Liga last season have been followed up by 13 in 12 starts this season.

Di Maria's pace in the on the left, as well as his tricky on the ball, a trait that made helped him catch the eye during his days with Benfica, would make him a real asset to any potential suitor.

His 11 goals in all competitions would have seen him finish above Fernando Torres and midfielder Ramires in the scoring charts at Stamford Bridge last season, however, his tally would be likely to increase if he wins a move away.

English clubs, Chelsea included, are likely to be able to match Di Maria's wages at Madrid, which are inferior comparing to the likes of skipper Iker Casillas.

Cons

For a player worth in Mourinho's eyes close to £40 million, and that has the potential to often be the difference in Madrid's big games, Di Maria's often froze when the pressure was on last term.

Bar his showing in the Copa Del Rey final, which saw his stunning cross headed in by Cristiano Ronaldo, Di Maria drifted in and out of the games against rivals Barcelona which eventually put paid to their hopes in the Champions League and La Liga.

Verdict

There's no doubt that Di Maria possesses all the tools to succeed in the Premier League.

His pace alone would make him one of the divisions' most feared wingers, while his tricks are likely to leave defenders in a spin.

At 23, he would represent a solid investment, despite his asking price, with plenty still to come from a player who despite his tender years, has some decent experience under his belt.
