High flying Southend United have today boosted their forward ranks by signing Bolton Wanders striker Jack Sampson on a one-month loan deal.

The move for the 18-year-old comes just a day after he signed an extended deal at his parent club, where he will stay until 2013.

Seen as one for the future by Trotters boss Owen Coyle, Sampson will look to learn his trade at Roots Hall in England's fourth tier.

Sampson, who is likely to go straight into Paul Sturrock's squad for the away trip to Northampton on Sunday, is pleased with the move.

He said: "It's a good opportunity for me, I'll be in a different environment and its a chance for me to learn and progress."

The striker becomes Southend's fourth addition of the transfer window, and will be hoping to aid the Essex club's promotion push.
