Arsenal playmaker Aaron Ramsey has revealed he can’t wait to play with Jack Wilshere.

The Welsh midfielder has become a key member of the first XI at Emirates Stadium this season.

Injuries and development have meant Arsene Wenger has not been able to regularly play the two together so far in the Gunners careers.

“It’s been quite weird because [initially] I was playing, so Jack went out on loan, then I got injured, so Jack played ” said Ramsey.

“We haven’t really had a chance to play together yet in the league. It will be good to have the competition.

“Jack is a great player for us; he had a really good season last year. It’s only a good thing to have competition for places.”

Wilshere has been absent from the first team for the entirety of the current season after undergoing ankle surgery, but he is due to return next month.

The 19-year-old had a breakthrough season last term and established himself as a key member of both the Arsenal and England teams.

This progress was made largely in Ramsey’s absence while the Wales captain was recovering form the horrific broken leg he suffered at Stoke City.

After, effectively, two season of benefitting from one another’s convalescence, the two young stars will find out if they have the chemistry that Arsene Wenger claimed caused him to agree more readily to the sale of Cesc Fabregas.

This will mean more competition for places in a midfield that has found some fluidity after a disastrous start to the season.

One player Ramsey has built up a strong connection with is deadline day signing Mikel Arteta and the 20-year-old was enthusiastic about the way they have linked up so far.

“It has definitely grown as the season has gone on. We’ve got a better understanding of each other and that is starting to show with the assists and the chances created,” he added.

“It is only going to get stronger as the season goes on, too.”
