Plymouth Argyle have confirmed there has been interest in 17-year-old Matt Lecointe, amid reports linking Liverpool and Manchester United to the starlet.

Having scored twice in 20 outings for the Pilgrims this season, Lecointe has caught the eye on the Premier League pair.

With Plymouth just two months removed from administration, the Devon-based club would welcome the funds from any sale, but owner James Brent says manager Carl Fletcher will decide when to sell.

"There has been interest in Matt and it's fairly well documented that the administrator was trying to sell him because being a youth-team player he could be sold whereas everyone else was fortunately locked in by the transfer window," he said.

"He is someone who is very highly regarded by the manager and it's the manager who forms a view and makes recommendations.

"Matt is someone who has done very well for us and I hope he continues to do very well for us in three, five or seven years' time."
