Former West Germany international Gunter Netzer says Lukas Podolski should continue to apply his trade in the Bundesliga, amid reported interest from Arsenal.
The FC Koln forward has started his intention to leave the club, with a move abroad likely to take his fancy.
The likes Arsenal and AC Milan have both been linked with the forward previously, but Netzer is urging Koln to increase their contract off to Podolski, to keep him in the Bundesliga.
"He is no player for a great European club," Netzer said. "Even during his time at Bayern Munich he was missing clout and assertion.
"For Podolski it would be ideal if Koln would increase their contract offer - that would provide him with better opportunities."
"An alternative would would be a big club in the vicinity of his home in Koln, so he could combine business with pleasure."
Podolski has already netted 14 goals in 16 games during the first half of the season, but even with Arsenal having brought in Thierry Henry, the club could be likely to invest in a new forward.
Marouane Chamakh has scored just once for Arsenal this season and could even be offloaded to Fiorentina.
