Inter Milan's victory over AC Milan on Sunday was a testament to the work done by Claudio Ranieri at the San Siro, according to club president Massimo Moratti.

After a disastrous start to the season that cost Gian Piero Gasperini his job, Inter eventually rallied under Claudio Ranieri and have now won eight of their last nine Serie A outings.

Undoubtedly the most memorable of these came at the weekend in the Milan derby, when a solitary goal from Diego Milito was enough to settle the encounter.

Inter are now fifth in the league - only six points behind leaders Juve - while Milan missed the chance to go top after defeat to their greatest rivals.

And Moratti could not hide his joy after seeing his side notch an impressive win against the Rossoneri.

"The result is certainly a reward for Ranieri's work and effort," he told Sky Sport Italia. "He's picked the team up again. Ranieri's a wise man."

"He knows how to get his ideas across to the players and how to get them behind him and earn their confidence."

He added: "I didn't really believe it that much myself when we were fifth from bottom; in times like that you live in hope.

"But credit where it's due for coming out of such a bad situation so convincingly."
