Manchester United and Arsenal are reportedly keeping tabs on Ajax defender Jan Vertonghen, although Bayern Munich are ready to rival the Barclays Premier League duo for his signature.

Vertonghen is held in high regard at the Amsterdam Arena at has frequently been linked with a big-money move away from Ajax over the past 18 months or so.

According to talkSPORT, both Manchester United and Arsenal are monitoring the 23-year-old, although Bayern could be the first to formalise their interest.

AC Milan are also said to retain an interest in the Belgian international, who has been compared to compatriot and friend Thomas Vermaelen.

Vertonghen, though, recently claimed he is happy to stay with Ajax, with who he has a contract until 2013.

However, he has previously been outed as an admirer of Arsenal, having been sold on the Gunners by Vermaelen.

The Belgian duo were teammates at Ajax before Vermaelen signed for Arsenal in the summer of 2009, and there is still a possibility Vertongen could tread the same path as the 26-year-old.
