Arsenal midfielder Andrei Arshavin is being chased by Serie A side Lazio.

The Mirror is reporting that the Serie A club feel they can convince Arsene Wenger to let the Russian leave Emirates Stadium.

Arshavin has found starting berths for the Gunners hard to come by this term, with Wenger preferring to start Gervinho and Theo Walcott on the wings.

The 30-year-old has struggled for form over the past 12 months and has been criticised by sections of the Arsenal crowds.

The former Zenit St Petersburg man arrived in the 2009 January transfer window for a fee of around £12million.

He quickly became a fan favourite and his most notable performance came when he scored all of Arsenal’s goals in a 4-4 draw against Liverpool at Anfield.

The Russian international has since failed to maintain anything like that level of performance and many believe he does not work hard enough for the team.

The report suggests Lazio will tempt the north London side with an offer of around £6million.

Arshavin’s contract runs out in 18 months and the Gunners may be tempted to cash in before his depreciates rapidly in the summer.

Wenger has signed club legend Thierry Henry on a short-term loan to cover the loss of Gervinho to the Africa Cup of Nations during January and early February.

It has been suggested that Henry’s presence, as well as the emergence of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, could mean Wenger is ready to let go a player who has only scored once in the league this season and twice in his last 30 appearances.
